Pearland Parks & Rec Let Freedom Sing Talent Search

Want to show off your singing skills but don’t want to wait in line for American Idol or The Voice? Well Pearland has the perfect opportunity for you. Pearland Parks and Recreation is holding its 7th annual “Let Freedom Sing” talent search. The auditions will be held at the Pearland Town Center at 11200 Broadway St.

Registration will start on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. and end promptly at 2 p.m. You have to be a Pearland resident or be enrolled in a Pearland ISD school in order to participate.

There are two different categories; one is for children from 8 to 14 years old and they will sing “God Bless America” for their audition while anyone aged 15 and above will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Eight finalists will be chosen from each category. Each of the eight finalists will perform in front of a panel of judges during Summerfest which is held by Pearland Parks and Recreation.

Every Friday during the summer concert series between May and June, one finalist will sing his or her assigned song. The winner out of the eight finalists will sing at the city’s July 4th Celebration of Freedom. Killen’s Steakhouse Announces Pop Up Store in Pearland

Renowned chef Ronnie Killen of Pearland’s infamous Killen’s Steakhouse announces a pop up store beginning March 30. The debut of weekend barbecue lunches inside the steakhouse begins while construction of the nearby brick and morter barbecue restaurant are underway.

On Saturdays and Sundays before 11 am until sell out, diners will be able to sample smoked meats including the award-winning beef ribs from the recent Rodeo Uncorked Best Bites competition. Potato salad, pulled-pork beans and mouth-watering desserts will also be available.

Discovery Green Houston offers Ballet and Bubbles

Discovery Green Houston offers Ballet and Bubbles on Tuesday, March 12 beginning at noon. As part of the Spring Break celebration in the park this week, the Houston Ballet will perform from noon to 1 pm. The Foam Party begins immediately afterward and lasts until 4 pm. Two separate foam areas are created – one for children age 6 and younger and the other is for children age 7 and older.

Pearland Parks and Recreation’s Paws in the Park Event

The 19th annual Paws in the Park event takes place on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th from 10 am to 4 pm in Independence Park.

Pearland Parks and Recreation kicks off the event on Saturday morning with the HEB Plus! Pet and Owner Fun Run followed by the national Dock Diving competition.

Pup Squad animal rescue will be hand for pet adoptions. Their mission is to rescue orphaned puppies and nursing litters from the streets, shelters and other life threatening situations and match them with permanent adoptive homes.

Other activities include exhibitor booths, flyball demos, micro-chipping and enrollment, agility demos, and US Dog Disc Nationals. Admission is free. Visit pearlandparks.com/pawsinthepark for more information.
