Manvel High School Student Excel at VASE Art Competition

Manvel High School students achieved outstanding results at the VASE art competition. VASE the Visual Art Scholastic Event is the UIL equivalent for art. High school students first complete at the Regional level, then a select few are chosen to compete at the State level.

Twenty-four Manvel High School students competed at the Regional Event held at Clear Falls High School the weekend of February 23rd. Two students were chosen for the prestigious State event competition to be held in College Station. Congratulations to Junior Clinton Elliot and Senior Yaeji Lee for outstanding work!

Pearland Theatre Guild Wizard of Oz Auditions

The Pearland Theatre Guild invites children ages 6 to 17 to audition for its Winter Children’s Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz on Saturday, February 23rd from 1 to 3 pm. If chosen, the production fee is $75, which includes production expenses, instruction, script, certificate, cast party and two tickets.

Located at 14803 Almeda Drive, the Pearland Theatre Guild strives to enrich cultural life in the Pearland area. The institute provides area residents with an opportunity to both attend and participate in a variety of theatre works.

Turtle Race Winners Areā€¦

The Annual Mustang Bayou Turtle Race hosted by the Alvin ISD Education Foundation took place on Saturday, February 2nd with a total of 8,725 turtles racing down the bayou.

Congratulations to the top three winners!

  • First Place – Carolena Lara won a $1,500 Trip Voucher sponsored by Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP; RDL Energy Services; and TREC, Inc. Electrical Contractors
  • Second Place – Lisa Brady won a $1,000 Shopping Spree sponsored by David & Tracy Vela
  • Third Place – Joseph Hall won an Ipad sponsored by Ron Carter Automotive Group.

According to Sheila Olson, executive director of the Alvin ISD Education Foundation, the turtle race and 5K raised more than $50,000.

“On behalf of the students and staff of Alvin ISD we extend our sincere appreciation to all of our partners who helped make this Turtle Race a success. The proceeds will enable us to fund Innovative Teaching Grants, Campus Grants and Student Scholarships for the teachers of Alvin ISD” said Olson.

Manvel High School Swimming & Diving Team Shines at District Meet

Congratulations to Manvel High School Coach Veal and his Swimming & Diving team for a successful District Meet Friday night at the Pearland Natatorium. The Maverick Girls captured their first District Championship. The Boys finished higher than they’ve ever finished at District with a Third Place finish. Combined scores placed the Manvel High School Team First Overall! Congratulations!

The next meet will be the Regional Diving Championships on Thursday, February 7th. The Regional Swimming Prelims and Finals are on Friday, February 8th & Saturday, February 9th.
