Brazoria County- A Top Area for New Business

In a recovering economy, Brazoria County has thrived beyond measure and is among the top ten counties in the Gulf Coast region to substantially grow. Over the last two years the county has increased new business development and created more jobs.

According to the current issue of Site Selection Magazine, 14 new plants have opened between October of 2009 and October 2011. Several expansions have also occured. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data says, Texas led the nation in positive employment change between January and November, with 144,550 new jobs added, representing 13.4 percent of national jobs gained.
The growth does not show signs of slowing down anytime over the next several years. The Chevron Corporation has a trinity of projects planned for Brazoria County that will create approximately 400 new long term jobs and over 10,000 new engineering and construction jobs, says Chevron. Several other Oil & Gas corporations have plans for the region as well.

Alvin ISD Students Compose Novel for Internet Awareness

Six students from Manvel High School participated in the Young Creative Writing Project as part of an Internet based awareness campaign. Students from were challenged to write at least 50,000 words in 30 days.

Completing their goal the students had approximately 133 pages of text. The competition began over a decade ago and has produced several published, successful author’s including The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern who was chosen as one of The New York Times Best Sellers. “The competition is a great opportunity for our students to see that they can accomplish writing a novel,” said Barbara Wells, Manvel High School English teacher.
Participating students included Marc Dandoy, Heather Pan, Ben Glasgow, Peter Anderson, Shyla Escobedo, Briana Banaglorioso, Manuel Gonzales, Luke Orlando, Regina Sasuman, Kathleen Paid, Anthony Moorehead and Daniel Devarajan."

Join in “Corks & Canvas” Art Event

The Pearland Recreation Center is hosting “Corks & Canvas" art exhibition created by the Pearland Arts league.

“It’s All About 2012” is the theme and the fanciful art work will portray it. All the works of art will contain the number 2012 to honor the new year and is a requirement for entry. The exhibition will allow Pearland area citizens to stretch their imaginations and allow artists to deconstruct the concept.

The "Corks & Canvas" event will be held on January 14 from 5 to 7 PM and will continue its exhibition until January 28 at the 4141 Bailey Road location second floor gallery space. Pearland Parks & Recreation is dedicated to providing quality events and festivals that the entire family will look forward to attending each year.

Pearland Parks and Recreation Hosts Father/Daughter Dance

The Pearland Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Father/Daughter Dance on Saturday February 18 from 6 to 8 PM at the Bailey Campus, located at 4717 Bailey Road.
Create memories to last a lifetime! Each couple attending the “Under the Sea” dance will receive a keepsake photo along with an evening of dancing and desserts. Residents Snack with Santa

Sedona Lakes residents had an opportunity to Snack with Santa this holiday season. The Sedona Lakes' Homeowners' Association sponsored the "Snack with Santa" event on Saturday, December 10th. Residents met Santa and enjoyed refreshments while meeting their neighbors. The event was held in the Coventry Homes model.
