Sedona Lakes Wide Open Road Drawing Winner

Posted on Wednesday, 18 May 2011

Home buyers were invited to discover the "Wide Open Road" to Sedona Lakes in April, a promotional event to draw attention to the opening of the new CR 101 exit off Highway 288. While visiting, shoppers were invited to register to win an Apple iPad, no purchase required.

Monkia Lal and her husband Ashit Mohanlal visited Darling Homes during the event and they were the lucky iPad winners.

The couple is currently living in the Medical Center area and is looking for a new home in the Pearland area. Sedona Lakes attracted them because of its easy access to 288, the Medical Center, Rice Village, Hermann Park and downtown Houston. Sedona Lakes also offers the level of quality they are looking for in a new home community. Monkia, who is an interior designer, and Ashit, a software analyst, have one child who currently attends day care in Pearland.

Pearland Old Townsite Farmers Market

Posted on Wednesday, 18 May 2011

Pearland residents plan to bring reusable shopping bags to use as they peruse the booths at the Old Townsite Farmers Market each second and fourth Saturday of the month from 8am until noon.

The vendors this year have a wide array of fresh produce, baked goods, grass fed meats, as well as soaps and natural dog treats. The Farmers Market also has special events such as Kids Zumba, Yoga at the Market, and children’s crafts. The Market also features a “Gardener’s Corner” for local residents to sell their extra produce, herbs, and flowers!

The Farmers Market was founded by local Pearland residents, Cassie Mitchel and her husband to encourage the community to “buy local”. Cassie and her family hope to “promote a healthy lifestyle, bring residents back to the heart of Pearland, contribute to the revitalization of the Old Townsite area, and to help create a sense of community among Pearland residents”.

For more information and a calendar of events visit the Old Townsite Farmers Market website.

Alvin Public Library to Hold Grand Re-Opening

Posted on Tuesday, 17 May 2011

It’s time to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Alvin Public Library. A day of festivity is scheduled for Thursday, May 19th, thanks to the hard work and generous donations made by the community after hurricane Ike caused the library to be closed due to water damage and a fire.

The Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, as well as many members of the community, both individuals and businesses, have donated money to help with the repair costs that significantly exceeded the city’s insurance company settlement. In addition, the Alvin Police Officers Association held a bar-b-cue cook-off to help the library.

After the fire, the books were taken to a Brazoria County building where they were cleaned, repaired and stored. Now happily at home on new library shelves, the books are ready for a visit from their loyal patrons. Guests will also notice some new furniture graciously donated by Chevron that has replaced pieces damaged beyond repair.

“I think the community will be very pleased with the building and its contents. This has been a long haul and we are all so very excited to see this project to completion,” said Alvin City Manager Terry Lucas.

Plan to attend this free grand re-opening event at the Alvin Public Library with your whole family and take home a few spellbinding books to enjoy over the long hot summer too!
